Download A FREE Audiobook From Audible!

If you haven’t tried out Audible yet, you can get a completely free audio book when you sign up for their FREE 30 day trial!

Please keep in mind that they will automatically start charging you $14.95 per month (and you get 1 book per month) after your trial is over if you haven’t cancelled your subscription BEFORE the 30 days are up, so definitely set a reminder on your calendar to cancel if you don’t want a new audiobook for $14.95 each month.

I did the free 30 day trial a couple of years ago and got a book that I had been wanting to listen to for a while.  I downloaded the book to my iTunes library and then cancelled my Audible account without a problem.

There are all kinds of fun audio books that you could download with your credit!  A few of the Elsie Dinsmore books are available to download, as well as Ann Frank’s diary, SEVERAL biography and history books, and lots of great classics!

Audible.com is powered by Amazon, so no need to enter your credit card info since Amazon already has it on file.  🙂  (If somehow you’ve managed to avoid giving Amazon a credit card number then you’ll need to enter one).  Just, again, be sure to remember to hit the cancel button in your account details of your Audible account before the 30 days are up if you don’t want to keep buying audio books each month!

FREE $2 Amazon Video On Demand Credit – Rent A $1.99 Educational Movie!

Did you know that Amazon has TONS of educational movies (biographies, documentaries, science movies) to rent through their video on demand system?

Typically the movies can range anywhere from 99¢ (older movies and their weekly specials) – $4.99 (new releases) to rent, but most of the movies are right at $1.99. And right now Amazon Local (the daily deal part of Amazon) is giving away a completely FREE $2 Amazon Video On Demand credit!

Yeah, completely free. You don’t have to buy anything to get it. What’s the catch? Amazon is going to start sending you their daily deal emails in hopes that you will actually buy something in the future. They are more than happy to give you a $2 credit to put you on their email list. But I’m okay with that. 🙂

Here’s how to get the deal:

1. Head over to Amazon Local and sign up for an account if you don’t have one already.

2. Pick your city and scroll down to the extra deals towards the bottom of the page and you should see an image like the one at the top of this post.

3. Click on that image and “purchase” the deal. Keep in mind that you will have to give them a credit card number, but you will not be charged. I definitely recommend always using a credit card rather than a debit card when making any online purchases.

4. You’ll receive the code on your “Your Vouchers” page on the Amazon Local site.

5. Then head over to Amazon before October 31st and pick a movie to rent!

I’ve really been wanting to watch Incredible Creatures That Defy Evolution with the kids (we’ve been talking a lot about creation and evolution lately) so since that’s just $1.99 it’s perfect!

Let us know what movies you find that would be good to rent!!

(And if you are new to Amazon Video On Demand, some of the images on the movie covers are just completely awful, so I definitely would recommend browsing through without the kids looking over your shoulder.)

FREE McGuffey’s Readers & Spelling Book!

The McGuffey Readers are must-have items for many homeschooling families.  You can buy the physical books for around $51 on Amazon OR you can print them out for just the cost of paper from Google Books!

But if you want to save on the cost of paper too and you have a Kindle or Kindle App on your smartphone or tablet, then you can download the books to take with you wherever you go!

The McGuffey Readers and the McGuffey Spelling Book are FREE for your Kindle or Kindle App!  The only one that’s not free is the McGuffey Primer, but you can get a used copy for as little as $2 plus shipping costs! (You can get the Primer for free from Project Gutenberg, but there are no images in the Kindle edition. Thanks Heather!)

Here are the links to each of the free books that you can download:

Free Foreign Language Resources!

Does anyone else feel overwhelmed by all of the language learning courses out there? We’ve discussed buying Rosetta Stone, which has been highly recommended by almost everyone we talk to, but for $400 – $500 per language? Um… maybe we’ll work with some free options to see if those will work first.

We have LOVED the BBC’s spanish course Mi Vida Loca, and plan to use their “Quick Fix” resources for several languages that we likely will not have time to get to a full-curriculum for.

You can easily find the free Foreign Language resources page (there are several resources listed included the BBC one that we love) anytime from the navigation bar above when you hover your mouse over the word “Core Subjects”, or you can click here for the Free Foreign Language Learning page! 🙂

How To Navigate HowToHomeschoolForFree.com!

How can How To Homeschool For Free help you?

My biggest goal for this website is to help others find FREE resources for homeschooling in a way that is NOT overwhelming!

I don’t know about you guys, but sometimes I feel so overwhelmed by all of the blogs and Pinterest boards about homeschooling that are out there.   Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE blogs, and I LOVE Pinterest (maybe a little too much), but hopefully this will be a site where you can feel a little more relaxed and come to when you need to easily find some free homeschooling resources!

While this site is set up in a blog format (because I love blog format and it let’s us update the front page of the site with random things that we find!) the MEAT of the site is in the navigation bar up at the top of the page.

You can find FREE resources for just about any subject that you are looking for and we are adding new topics each week!

Just hover your mouse over the different menu options (as shown in the picture below) to see all of the subjects that we have added so far.

And if you want to be updated when new subjects are added then just click on that subscribe button down below this post to be added to our email list!

Please feel free to ask questions any time and either me, Jody, and/or our awesome homeschooling community will try to help you out!  🙂

Teach Them Diligently Convention 2013 with Pam Tebow, Ken Ham & More + $20 Off Coupon Code!!

Somehow over the past 5 years of homeschooling I have managed not to go to a single homeschool convention.

I’ve thought about going to our local one here in Dallas each year, but I’ve decided against it for two reasons:

1. I know that I would spend way to much money and buy curriculum that I wouldn’t use. (I’m kind of a sucker for product demonstrations at conventions).

2. I don’t want to feel overwhelmed. I feel great about what we are doing with our school schedule and I want to continue feeling great about it instead of feeling like there’s absolutely no way that I can homeschool my kids (I’ve heard many friends say that they have felt completely overwhelmed after a homeschool convention).

But last year I saw my friend Holly post several things to Facebook and Twitter about a homeschool convention that she went to in South Carolina called the Teach Them Diligently Convention. I was intrigued by her posts and decided to look into it.

And this is what I found:

“The Teach Them Diligently Convention was born out of a recognized need for more events celebrating the focus of Christian Homeschool Families—which is to disciple their children to glorify God. The organizers of this Convention are also officers of Worldwide Tentmakers which is a Mission Agency focused on Tentmaking as a missions strategy as you would find in Acts 18. Therefore, Missions, discipleship, and parenting will be a large focus for the Teach Them Diligently Convention. This will be added to the normal Homeschool Convention focus on teaching techniques and use of curriculum.”

Well that sounded like a lot more than just an expo hall and people telling you that you’re not doing enough (I know, that’s not all homeschool conventions, but that’s what was in my head about conventions!)

But this… THIS sounded like a convention that would actually be encouraging not just as a homeschool mom but also as a family wanting to teach our children to love God with all their hearts and to love others.

I was impressed with the speakers that they had this past year (like Ken Ham, Voddie Baucham, Stephen Kendrick to name a few) and I was impressed with their heart and vision behind the whole conference.

So much so that I asked them what I could do to spread the word about the conferences next year!!

First off, I was THRILLED to see that they are not only having a conference in Spartanburg, SC in 2013 (May 2-4), but also in Nashville, TN (May 16-18), and in Omaha, NE (May 30 – June 1)!! So hopefully you live close enough to one to be able to go!!  I will be at the one in Omaha!  🙂

Secondly, I absolutely LOVE that they have a program for children. This is also a big part of what sold me on this conference. Kids ages 4 – 12 can join the kid’s programs where they will learn about topics from robotics to crafts to film-making to apologetics! I LOVE IT!!!

Then the teens will have their own program put on by Apologia Academy (can I join in on that one too?)  🙂

And have you seen the price of the THREE-DAY convention? I’ve been to many many conferences for blogging over the past several years and so the prices of Teach Them Diligently completely blew me away! For our whole family (5 of us… the 2 year old would stay with grandma) it’s just $150!

PLUS, they have a special coupon code that you can use through TUESDAY (that’s tomorrow, 10/2) to get $20 off the early bird pricing!! The basic early bird price is $45, so you can get it for just $25 (then the kids/teens bring up the price from there).

When you sign up, just enter the coupon code BESTOFFER to get the $20 off!

Now I mentioned a few of the speakers for 2012, but have you seen the speakers for 2013?! Ken Ham and Voddie Baucham are going to be back, but they have also added a whole slew of amazing speakers like PAM TEBOW (yes, you read that correctly), Sally Clarkson, Todd Friel, Jenny Martin, and Crystal Paine!  So many of my favorite speakers and bloggers!

And last but certainly not least, one of the reasons I love this convention is because all of the proceeds are going to Worldwide Tent Makers, an awesome Christian organization that helps to send professionals overseas to work AND share Jesus with others! You can read more about Worldwide Tent Makers on their website!

**Disclosure: I am thrilled to be partnering with Teach Them Diligently as an affiliate! All of the proceeds that How To Homeschool For Free makes from this affiliate program will be going back into missions work overseas.**
