FREE Internet Filtering Software For Kids!!

I can’t even begin to tell you guys how THRILLED I am to have found this!!

We are very careful about the websites that our kids get on, and we even have Safe Eyes to protect the whole family from unintentionally going to a site that we would want our children (or us!) to see.  Safe Eyes is a great online security system that we bought based off of a recommendation from Dave Ramsey.

Anyway, while Safe Eyes is perfect for filtering out the websites that we don’t want to show up (you can even have different protection levels for different members of the family!) there are times that I want to pick exactly which websites they can go on.  And that’s exactly what Weblock For Kids does.

You set the specific websites that you want your child to be able to go to, and those are the ONLY websites that they can click on!  To exit back to the main computer screen you have to enter your parental password that you set up when you are setting up the program.  You can add and remove websites very easily (so if your 7 year old boy has played WAY to much Lego.com at the beginning of the week, you can take it off his approved sites for the rest of the week).  🙂  Are all 7 year old boys obsessed with Legos?  Mine sure is!!  He’s on Lego.com every chance he can get!

The best part is that this program is completely FREE!!  And from downloading and using the program, it looks like the only way that they are making money is by advertising several “extra offers” and extra free downloads (like toolbars and stuff) right when you first download the software.  Once I downloaded Weblock, there were no more of those offers.  You don’t have to to sign up for any of those to get this program; we just hit “no” or “skip” on all of them and eventually made it to the Weblock software that we wanted!

And I love that you can set time limits on computer usage too!!

FREE Homeschool Resources For Preschoolers!!

I remember when I first started preschool with my oldest (who is now 10). I looked into so many different curriculums and felt very overwhelmed by all of the options out there. Should I really pay $350 for a preschool program for my 4 year old? Thankfully I had some older homeschool moms in my life who encouraged me to have a very “light” preschool and to just stick with fun activities, coloring, and continue to teach them through real-life.

I can’t tell you how thankful I am that I listened! Preschool was not a stressful time for us, and I think it would’ve been if I would’ve tried to put us on a strict schedule with a 4 year old and a 1 year old. Especially since I’m one of those people that goes a little crazy when I’m on a strict schedule. 🙂 I’m sure the kids would’ve felt my tension.

All that to say, we just put up a new FREE homeschooling resource page just for Preschoolers!! There are so many fun (and free) activities and printable worksheets online that you can incorporate into your day with preschoolers.

Whether you are a person who DOES like schedules and want to schedule every activity out, or someone who wants to do an activity or two a day, or someone who desperately needs something for their preschool age child to do while they teach older ones (that’s where we are right now!), then there is something for you on the FREE Preschool Resources Page!

Please let us know if you have any other suggestions or things that have been helpful for you as you “do school” with your little ones. 🙂

AND, if you’re looking for resources for other subjects, we are adding new subjects throughout the week! Just look up in the dark blue navigation bar at the top of the page where it says “Home”, “Full Curriculums” (yes, Webster’s says that “curriculums” is just fine, even though technically it’s “curricula”), “Core Subjects”, etc… 😉
