Louisiana Homeschooling Legal Requirements

Below is a quick reference guide on the homeschooling requirements for the state of Louisiana. For more information on the legal requirements visit the HSLDA Louisiana [2] page.
Louisiana residents have two options for homeschooling: a home-based study program or a home-based private school:
Homeschooling as a home study program:
1. Apply for approval.
2. Teach for the required number of days.
3. Teach the required subjects.
4. Provide evidence of immunization.
5. Renew your application for approval.
6. Apply for a TOPS scholarship if desired.Homeschooling as a home-based private school:
If you choose this option all the way through high school, your student will not be eligible for a TOPS award. Please see item #6 above.
1. If your child has been attending public school, provide notification of enrollment.
2. Do not accept any federal or state funds.
3. Provide annual notice of attendance.
4. Teach for the required number of days.
