Public Domain Books
Volume Four (Chapter 5) of Charlotte Mason’s Series [14] has several ideas for teaching the Five Senses. This series is full of good info for homeschooling in general.
Field Trip Ideas
I can’t think of a better field trip for using all 5 senses than a farm, especially one with food samples made with farm-grown products. You can check out Homeschool Buyers Co-op [15] for a list of Agricultural Field Trips in your area. Click on your region, then select Agricultural.
If you live near a Sweet’s Candy Factory, you might be able to get a tour. Here is one mom who shared her tour on her blog, Oatmeal Kisses [16].
Visit a florist or nursery to learn about the most fragrant plants and how you can plant your own fragrant garden. I love this idea that I saw on Pinterest the other day for a small toddler garden in the backyard [17]!
Visit a candle shop and smell the different fragrances or visit a place that actually makes candles.
Visit a music store to hear different instruments.
